The formation, quality and stability of the relationship in African-Hungarian mixed relationships

The question of African-Hungarian mixed relationships and marriages is becoming more and more relevant with the increase in migration from Africa to Hungary. The growing trend can be observed despite the fact that some of the immigrants only stay in Hungary temporarily, as Hungary is currently considered a transit country. In our study, we present mixed relationships in which one party is of sub-Saharan African origin and the other is of Hungarian origin. We examined these relationships in terms of their formation, quality and stability. We conducted semi-structured in-depth interviews with women who had had an African partner with whom they had at least one child. Our study suggests that the stability and quality of relationships depends on the degree of integration of the African men and their willingness to adapt. However, the ability of Hungarian women to accept and adapt also plays a major role.
